Baby Sign

From the age of six months babies know what they want but they cannot tell you. When your baby is 1 year old the vocal cords are developed enough to start speaking and it is another year before your baby is ready to attempt complex words and phrases. However, your baby’s motor system is sufficiently developed from 6 months onwards for them to communicate effectively using gestures and movements.

Pre-School Sign

Jolly gestures offers individually tailored programmes to meet the needs and requirements of your establishment:

A one hour taster session
Staff training - enables your staff to use sign language on a day to day basis, to encourage and develop speech and communication.
Baby signing classes - 40 - 60 minute classes run for children aged 6 months to 2 years. (6 week course).
Infant signing classes - 40 - 60 minute classes for children aged 2 to 4 years (6 week course)
Upon completion of an introduction course, a weekly signing class can be introduced.

Schools

Jolly gestures can offer a variety of programmes to suit the individual needs of your establishment and its pupils:

• A one hour taster session
• A six week introduction to sign language course for both primary and secondary schools. This can be after school or as part of the PSHE/citizenship curriculum.
• Upon completion of the introductory course a weekly signing club can be introduced as part of your schools extended day program.
• All pupils who attend six week courses receive a certificate of attendance plus the option of taking an end of course test to assess knowledge and understanding of the signs covered throughout the course.
• All of the Jolly Gestures for schools programmes are delivered by Tracy Armond who holds a BSL level 1 & 2 qualification, level 3 (current). Tracy is also CRB registered.

Mentoring

Jolly Gestures offers 1:1 mentoring and revision sessions to all students studying for their Sign Language levels 1 & 2.

All sessions last for 1 hour and you are mentored by Tracy Armond who holds BSL level 1 & 2, level 3 (current).

These sessions are individually tailored to meet your needs and all areas of the Sign Language curriculum can be revisited in order to prepare you for your examination.
